My music education.

I trained in the UK, completing a BA (Hons) in Music focused on Piano Performance. My studies covered technique, harmony, sight-reading, and both classical and contemporary repertoire, with modules in arranging, studio musicianship, and ensemble directing. I later earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Music Education, specialising in one-to-one instrumental teaching and adapting methods for different ages and goals. Ongoing professional development includes masterclasses with UK pianists (classical, jazz, pop), plus workshops on improvisation, keyboard harmony, accompanying, and using technology in lessons.

My music experience as a pianist.

I’ve performed at venues in Demo and around the UK – solo recitals, weddings and functions, chamber groups, and jazz trios. As a session pianist/keyboardist, I’ve recorded parts for independent artists and media projects, delivering to brief and deadline. Live, I work with function bands, choirs, and original projects across classical, pop, rock, blues, jazz, and musical theatre. I’ve also played in pit orchestras (Keys 1/2), coordinating with MDs and following cues precisely. I’m comfortable with click tracks, in-ear monitoring, MainStage/soft-synth rigs, MIDI programming.

My work as a piano teacher in Demo.

I teach in Demo and online, working with beginners to advanced players of all ages. Lessons are one-to-one or small group, and I’ve also taught as a tutor in schools. Each student gets a clear plan: technique (scales, arpeggios, touch, pedalling), repertoire, theory, aural skills, sight-reading, improvisation, and accompanying. I set achievable weekly goals, share practice routines, and track progress. Exam preparation is a regular part of my teaching (ABRSM, Trinity, RSL), tailored to your style and aims. I also support GCSE and A-level performance coursework, audition prep, and ensemble coaching. I’m experienced with adaptive strategies for different learning needs.

In a typical lesson, we start with a brief check-in to review progress and set a clear aim for the session. I move straight into a focused warm-up to calibrate posture, hand shape, wrist alignment, touch, and coordination, then a short, practical theory block tied to today’s goal. I connect that theory and the technical work to the piece we’ll study, so the next step—repertoire—feels natural and purposeful. Most of the lesson is spent on your pieces: isolating tricky bars, slow practice and looping, refining timing, tone, articulation, and pedalling, and building confidence. We finish with a full playthrough, concise feedback, and a targeted practice plan for the week so you know exactly what to do between lessons. For 30 or 45 minute sessions, the flow stays the same but each segment is tighter. Around exams, auditions, or recitals, I shift more time to mock performances while keeping brief technique and theory touchpoints.

EXTRAS

Play-along - Backing tracks - Sight reading - Song learning

Lessons focus on practical piano skills you can use right away. We build solid technique (scales, arpeggios, chord voicings, finger independence, rotation, pedalling), tight rhythm and timing (subdivisions, metronome work), and fluent reading on treble and bass staves, plus lead sheets and chord symbols. Theory is always musical and applied—harmony, progressions, modes, ear training, and keyboard harmony—so you can accompany, arrange, and improvise with confidence.

Styles include classical (Baroque to contemporary), pop, rock, blues, jazz foundations, film, and gospel, with room to explore your favourites. We rehearse with a metronome and high-quality play-along tracks so you can lock in time, try ideas safely, and prepare for ensemble settings. I provide tailored backing tracks and slowed-down loops for home practice, plus guidance for recording takes at home. If grades are your goal, we map skills to ABRSM, Trinity, or RSL without losing the joy of making music.

Piano lesson types.

CONTEMPORARY PIANO

Contemporary piano lessons focus on sound, groove, and practical technique. We build tight time and confident comping/soloing—left-hand patterns, right-hand articulation, chord voicings, inversions, voice-leading, octave melody, ornaments, legato/staccato control, and pedalling. You’ll develop keyboard fluency, scales/modes, arpeggios and guide tones for improvisation, and fluent reading from chord symbols and lead sheets. If you play a keyboard, we’ll also cover gain staging, EQ, and effects so your parts sit in the mix. The aim is simple: musical parts that serve the song—live, in the studio, or at home.

CLASSICAL PIANO

Classical piano lessons develop beautiful tone, secure technique, and expressive interpretation. We begin with posture, hand shape, and alignment, then build even touch, finger independence, legato connection, articulation, voicing, and balance between hands. You’ll strengthen reading on the grand staff, rhythm and pulse, and shape phrasing, rubato, and dynamics across styles—from Baroque counterpoint to Romantic cantabile and Impressionist colour. Technical work includes scales, arpeggios, broken chords, ornaments, pedalling (legato, half-pedal, una corda), and efficient fingering. We apply these to carefully chosen repertoire and études with slow practice, sectioning, and mindful repetition.
